What Difference Does it Make?

I wasn't surprised when I recently heard about the latest altercation between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder. In light of the situation that occurred last season I was sure that something like this would resurface this season. Little did I know it would be within the first 4 games of the season. One journalist reported that the feud started last year between these two All-Stars has grown legs once again. Meaning this ongoing feud will derail the high hopes and possibilities that this team and the Oklahoma City community has for a championship. So I am left to ask the question, what difference does it make?
Within the infrastructure of a team, there has to be conflict, especially on a team that has a shot at winning an NBA title. Conflict allows for the team to learn how to resolve problems and bad situations. The feud between Durant and Westbrook shows that there are two players who are passionate about winning. Both want to step up and lead, it is just a matter of how they should lead. They are distinctly different players and the realization of that allows for these players to discover what kind of leader they are. During this journey there is always conflict, but to say that this feud will derail this team seems way to far fetched and almost childish. Two grown men ruining the chances at a championship that they are both fighting for seems ridiculous to me. I am not down playing the fact that it is quite possible that this kind of conflict can destroy the team chemistry, but since it is at a personal level I feel that it will strengthen the team, only if it is resolved solely between Durant and Westbrook. So what difference does it make, if these two men have a little scuffle, it would be a lie to say there isn't conflict on teams if the media didn't see it or hear about it? Conflict is a vital part of winning, and how teams handle the chaos.
I'm interested in hearing everyone else's take on this situation, feel free to post comments stating your opinion. Is the media blowing this out of proportion? what do you think will be the outcome for this team this season? I am looking forward to reading people's opinions.
